<p>Picard is going to be receiving a complete make-over code/feature/UI wise for v2.0. A part of the v2.0 plans is porting the existing code to PyQt5/Py3 to allow for future support and better encoding compatibility along with new features of Qt5(such as High DPI scaling, better widget and networking support and better cross-platform compatibility) and along with all the bug fixes that come with PyQt5 which will help clean up the code-base for Picard.</p> <p>This GSoC proposal aims to do a bare port of the Picard to Py3 and Qt5 along with setting up the foundation for v2.0. The port will be based off stable v1.4.1 code.</p>
<p>The project aims to Create and Enhance APIs and to produce a well-built backend mechanism related to an Education Platform which strives to enable 100% education and will help in upskilling developing countries and rural areas. The APIS to be created are Doubt Forum API (with Doubts and Doubt Answers), Announcements API, Mentor API, User API, CourseReview API, course Schedule API, Lecture API, and Assignments API. Each of these APIs will have proper documentation and testing. Role-based authentication along with firebase authentication had to be added to ensure that the required routes are secured along with some extra features along the way. These APIs would be used by the client-side of the app to fetch data and render quality functionality</p>
<p>ftw.book add-on is aimed to help users to manage their content as a form of "Book", and provide a way for users to get a hard-copy of documents.</p> <p>The project idea aims at:</p> <ul> <li>Upgrade the add-on to fit to Plone 5, or maybe compatible with both 4 & 5;</li> <li>Derive new classes from "Book" to satisfy more demands;</li> <li>Add BibTex support;</li> <li>Add "collection";</li> </ul> <p>The expected result should be an add-on fit to Plone 5,with more classes and extended functionality.</p>
A smooth and intuitive onboarding experience is essential for any app, ensuring that users understand its features while maintaining trust and engagement. This project focuses on enhancing the ListenBrainz Android onboarding flow by making it more informative, user-friendly, and privacy-conscious. Key improvements include a dedicated Listen Submission screen to give users full control over which apps contribute listens, clear permission rationales, and fallback mechanisms for denied permissions. Additionally, a revamped sign-in screen will provide better navigation, including a bug report option for easy issue submission. These improvements are crucial for user transparency and trust. By introducing a Listen Submission screen, users can choose how and when their listening data is collected, ensuring privacy and control. Clear permission rationales and fallback handling prevent confusion and provide users with alternative ways to grant necessary permissions. The addition of update prompts and options like disabling battery optimization in settings ensures users stay updated with the latest features and optimizations effortlessly. Seamless updates and proactive issue resolution enhance the overall experience. Integrating an update prompt for Play Store and F-Droid users keeps them informed about new releases, while a "Report Bug" button on the sign-in screen streamlines feedback collection. These refinements will significantly improve user retention, ensuring ListenBrainz remains a top choice for tracking listening habits while prioritizing privacy and usability.
OncoKB™ is a crucial resource which provides comprehensive information about genomic alterations in cancer. However, despite the availability of APIs and annotation tools, some users, especially those without computational backgrounds, face challenges in effectively annotating variants and generating reports. To bridge this gap, my project seeks to publish a standalone npm package for visualization of OncoKB annotations and a report generation module to make the annotations downloadable by the users. Seamless integration of these modules with cBioPortal will mark the end of my project.
MusicBrainz is a community-maintained database of music metadata that includes information about music artists, their releases, and related data such as recording and release dates, labels, and track listings, as well as the locations related to these tracks. The database tracks area types like countries, cities, districts, etc. to indicate the location of recording studios, artist birthplaces, concert halls, and events. But considering the scope of the database, MusicBrainz refers to external databases like Wikidata & GeoNames to keep its area metadata up-to-date. However, adding areas to the database is currently a manual process, which is cumbersome, causes delays, and prevents frequent updates on outdated areas. With this GSoC project, we aim to tackle this issue by building a new Mechanize based “AreaBot” written in Python (similar to the old Perl Bot) to automatically maintain and update areas in MusicBrainz using Wikidata.
<p>Green Navigation will become a great tool to calculate routes and compare routing algorithms. But imagine a front-end, that shows directions of the route and interesting informations about the current position in real-time! In this proposal I will show how to extend Green Navigation to a complete navigation system.</p> <p>My ideas would not only fit to the front-end project Integration of new features, they will be fit more to the project own idea.</p> <p>The idea is to create a mockup of a smart notification system, which will show directions of the calculated route as well as every other useful information existing in database. The notification could be a paper-card element, which shows up at top of the web app. Furthermore the mockup should be open enough to handle data added in future.</p>
Currently, running picard always spawns a new instance. It would be useful to pass the arguments to an already running instance (if exists). The best way to achieve this is to utilize named pipes, they work on all supported operating systems (i.e. Windows, Linux, MacOS). This project is part of the big Picard 3.0 update. The objective of this proposal is to design and implement an in-context AI assistant, named Co-Pilot, tailored for assisting users in creating Concerto models. This AI assistant will be seamlessly integrated into the existing VSCode web-extension, Playground, or other chatbot marketplaces, providing users with intuitive access to AI-driven suggestions and guidance during model creation. Co-Pilot will support multiple foundational AI models, such as OpenAI, Bard, Anthropic, among others, and allow users to configure API keys for their preferred models. Additionally, the proposal aims to engineer LLM prompts effectively to aid users in editing Concerto models and measure the effectiveness of these prompts.
The 3D volume activity is a Sugarizer activity made to teach its users about different 3D volumes like cubes and octahedrons. It provides an interactive platform where users can visualize, manipulate, and explore various volumes to enhance their understanding of geometric concepts in a playful and engaging manner. Featuring intuitive controls and vibrant visuals, the activity encourages hands-on exploration, enabling users to zoom in for detailed examination and interact with various customization options. Whether adjusting colors, selecting different volume types, or experimenting with different board backgrounds, users have the freedom to tailor their learning experience to suit their preferences and learning styles. The different board backgrounds also have different frictions thus also showing the users how the volumes interact with varying frictions. Furthermore, the activity promotes collaborative learning by facilitating shared experiences among connected users. Students can engage with peers, exchange ideas, and collectively deepen their understanding of 3D volumes.
The killer whale, also known as orca, is the largest dolphin species. Commercial hunting and culling for fisheries protection are threatening its existence. They are also captured for commercial displays in aquariums. Food contamination, chemical contaminants in water, and naval traffic disturbance all pose serious threats to their habitat. A group of orcas known as the Southern Residents is threatened in the United States, with only 71 remaining species in 1974 and 75 by 2020 . By listening for orcas and learning about marine bioacoustics, the Orcasound intends to study and save Southern Resident orcas in the Pacific Northwest . The proposed project uses machine learning and time-series approaches to improve real-time underwater sound interpretation
<p>Matrix-ircd is a work-in-progress bridge between matrix and IRC. The majority of the code was written in mid 2017 and does not use modern Rust asynchronous programming techniques, namely async/await. Instead, the project currently uses older asynchronous-styled code using manual combinators that have historically made maintaining (and writing) async code very difficult. This project will migrate the older futures code from 0.1.25 to std::future::Future and port all functions to using the newly introduced async/await syntax.</p>
The goal of this project is to enhance the usability of Decorator Command Set (DCS) data by developing a utility/method to convert verbose, complex JSON formats into a more human readable YAML representation and back again. Currently, it is highly verbose to read, write, and edit DCS JSON files. The plan is to implement a converter that turns DCS JSON objects into a simple YAML format and back again. The new YAML will be less verbose and more readable, helping people work with DCS better. By the end, a fully integrated converter will be delivered, complete with tests and proper documentation.
The objective of this proposal is to implement a new data fetch layer for frontend in Plone CMS. I intend to implement a library “@plone/client” that will work as a client for “plone.restapi”, using Tanstack Query. This client will enable Plone to move away from the “AsyncConnect” data fetch layer that is based on Redux. Then Redux can be used as the application-level data store only. TanStack Query brings many benefits with it, like caching support, de-duplication of queries, cancellation, refetch, easy-to-use hooks, SSR support, and more. A modern API client should use these features fully. The primary goal of this client is to be robust, yet flexible enough to support all use cases, and be easily extensible.
<p>The project has been under constant development for almost a year now. In the past one year, the app has been reworked to compile with the current Android ecosystem. Users can view release information by scanning a barcode, search information about artists, releases, release groups, labels, recordings, instruments, and events , view collections, tag their audio files (to a limited extent) and donate to the MetaBrainz Foundation via PayPal. The application has been released as a beta version on the Play Store for testing purposes. This project aims to make the application stable and robust.</p>
<p>This project proposal is based on the “Improve the Customization of Plone Listings” -idea listed on project ideas gathered by the Plone community. As stated in the suggestion, Plone Mosaic add-on currently lacks a way to display customized listings on pages. Customizable listings and search pages are stated to be two often requested features. My proposal is to start solving this problem by allowing users to customize the content of tiles with same WYSIWYG-functionality as already used in mosaic.</p>
<p>In order to visualize their private datasets, users of UCSC Xena browser have to upload data using separate desktop application. This behavior does not fit preferred workflow, since all visualizations are carried out in the browser and using desktop client only for uploading data is confusing for some users.</p> <p>The goal of this project is to move existing data upload functionality from desktop client to the browser. In addition to that, import module would be improved with extensive error handling and uniformed user experience overall.</p>
<p>Genpipes is a set of software pipelines designed for genomic analysis. There are currently seven different pipelines and three more are in the development phase. These pipelines consist of several steps (10-40). Therefore keeping track of which step was executed, what functionality did it provide, at what time it was executed, whether it failed or succeeded can be a cumbersome task. The project consists of an integrated system that automatically builds a flowchart of the steps executed by the user. This would be a user-friendly add-on to the software as having a flowchart of the steps executed would help in the analysis and understanding of the process performed.</p>
<p>antiSMASH, a python-based tool to mine micro-organisms genomes, currently uses pyQuery to generate static HTML pages. Consequently, several difficulties are found when improvements/changes need to be performed. This library is commonly described as too verbose, implying most of the times, string concatenations and mixed code for both presentation and logic. Subsequently, it is not much intuitive. In addition, recent patch update from 1.2.9 to 1.2.10 resulted in a backward compatibility break, and as a minor patch should not raise compatibility issues, the trust in this library is somehow compromised. Template Engines overcome the majority of the issues related to output generation. They are powerful tools that allow the developers to speed up their work in an easier and much cleaner way.</p> <p>This project proposes moving antiSMASH to jinja2, a well known, widely used and developer-friendly templating language for Python. With this migration, we intend to facilitate the future development of antiSMASH as well as the onboarding of new developers to the team. Moreover, considering jinja2 enormous user-base and applications, a backwards compatibility break in a minor version is unlikely.</p>
<p>The Sugar Journal doesn't do a great job of supporting versioning or forking. This project is to build a backend for the Journal and Turtle JS that is based on git, which does support versioning and forking. This project will also help the end user i.e., students and teachers to understand the concept of git. We also get the benefit of network access by building on the top of a git hosting site</p>
<p>The project aims to create a platform for hosting and sharing Vega and Vega-Lite visualizations as well as integrating the share functionality with the current editor. It will facilitate a user to save, fork and share any visualization on the web. It is designed keeping in mind about user-benefits and covers everything from backend to frontend with few new features. It will be a specialized platform for declarative Vega and Vega-Lite visualizations that lowers the barrier to entry into the ecosystem. Hence improving the ecosystem.</p>
To identify possible relations between gene variants, phenotypes, and diseases - an ideal way would be a multi-model approach that involves: • Supervised learning methods to discover diseases associated with combinations of gene variants and clinical features. • Also unsupervised learning methods like clustering to understand the underlying patterns among diseases that went unnoticed before. This could be a strong evidence-based approach for clinical treatments.
<p>Green Navigation is an innovative project with gigantic potential to promote the use of electric vehicles by providing users with a robust tool to compute the most energy-optimal routes. The UI is certainly usable at the moment, but I propose to re-think the current application architecture and redesign the UI to make the web app look so polished and sleek that our users will want to use the service.</p> <p>In addition, I propose to integrate a few new features, including live weather and traffic data, as well as terrain data to take the app experience to the next level.</p>
