This project aims to develop a machine learning approach to predict the energy consumption of an electric vehicle given information about the intended route and associated terrain information such as altitude. This project will also however, have to find an appropriate dataset from which the models can be learnt and settle nuances such as finding an appropriate sampling rate for the time series data. Additionally, the possibility of not finding the desired type or the adequate amount of data will also have to be accommodated, in which case a host of simulation approaches might have to be looked into. Eventually, this project aims to allow users to predict energy consumption after having proposed routes and hence may also be used to estimate operating ranges, thus helping alleviate range-anxiety.

The 21st century ushered with it the age of smart and predictive technology with the optimum use of resources to make life easier. In accordance with this trend, the proposal is to leverage machine learning algorithms for improved traffic avoidance, determine the energy consumption of the electric vehicles, simulation of driving, visualisation of the route taken by a car, route prediction and providing a smart notification system. The Fuel_prediction module has functionalities including predicting the energy consumption, the amount of CO2 that is saved from being emitted to the environment and the recharge time required for the journey. The Route_option module focuses on leveraging human knowledge to get the best route for traffic avoidance. The Trajectory module shows the visualization of the route a car takes. The Route_predictor helps to predict the route that the car will take based on the previous history. The Driving_simulator module is a simulator for vehicles to learn how to drive themselves. The Smart_notifcation module helps in filtering the notifications in order to avoid spamming the user.

Using ReactJS and Javascript for computation and visualisation of vehicle range to ease range anxiety among electric vehicle drivers.

Mentors: Student: Leah Chrestien

The primary purpose of this project is to encourage the use of electric cars by taking a giant step towards addressing the range anxiety problem faced by all potential buyers. Electric cars are a great alternative to the traditional combustion engines and are known to run on electrically powered engines which reduces emissions upto cent percent. This project aims to provide a well sketched road map that can safely determine the distances upto which the car can travel without having to recharge in the midst of its on-going journey.
