Amahi is a personal/Home server media software with the support of mobile apps and other devices that allow us to stream and access all types of media files present in our own servers (also called as HDAs). Currently, the android app works great, but there’s a lot of scope to improve it. This project mainly focuses on improving the following areas of the app:

Enhancing the UI / UX improvements of the app.

Adding support for secondary user login for both local and remote connection.

Support to share folders and shares with other servers (Friending feature)

Enhancing the media streaming of the app

Enhancing the user experience of the app while accessing the files.

Amahi android offers the ability to stream your HDA over your Android phone and Android TV, support for Chromecast and auto upload of images to HDA. The idea behind this project is to add new features to Amahi Android App which includes browsing files on Amahi servers, storing them for offline access and streaming multimedia. The app currently lacks the following features:

(1) Secondary user login support.

(2) Module to Auto Backup files on phone to HDA over Local Connection.

(3) Sharing files with other servers.

(4) Support for VPN proxy.

(5) Expresso based automated UI testing protocol.

(6) New theme corresponding to Amahi website.

(7) Storage and display of last opened details of each file.

Amahi is basically a cloud-based server. The features that Amahi iOS currently includes are browsing files on Amahi servers (HDAs), storing them for offline access and streaming multimedia.

I propose to add more features to the project, improve the existing ones and achieve features that are currently active in the Android counterpart.

The following are the deliverables I propose to achieve during the GSoC program: Chromecast Support, Improved Multimedia Players, Display Recent Files, Upload/Delete Files, Friending, Secondary User Login

Amahi is a personal/home cloud-based server. Currently, you can stream, view and access the files in your Amahi server using your iOS & Android device.

The Amahi iOS app has just basic functionality. I wish to add more functionalities to the Amahi iOS app to surpass the Android app functionalities. The following are my proposed deliverables before the end of the GSoC program.

Enhance the current Video Player’s functionality and make it a top-notch player by implementing gestures.

Implement Thumbnail previews for video and image files.

Implement a designated Audio Player for playing an audio playlist.

Handling PDF/MOBI/EPUB files.

Add functionality to open and edit the contents of any file in a text editor inside the app.

Implement file shares from HDA to other apps or users.

Multiple User Login.

Local storage to persist user preferences.

Adding functionality to UPLOAD new files to the shares directly from the mobile.

Add dialog to display the properties of a file.

Fix app specific bugs and optimize app performance and stabilization.

I propose to build an Amahi Express Install Disc, powered by Fedora Server. In that, the user can install our Amahi Server without interacting with Command Line Interface (CLI).

The problem is that user doesn't like to use CLI. In this world of cutting-edge UI/UX interfaces, user abhors the CLI. So, I will add a module in the Installation Process, to setup Amahi Server where the user will need to type their Installation Code and server ID to setup server.

Here, Anaconda GitHub repository and documentation for developing Anaconda addons along with documentation for Kickstart file will be used a lot. Anaconda parses Kickstart file to run any third-party python modules or addons to customize the installation process. I will develop these addons so that user will only need to input their login and password in the CLI to access the server.

Amahi is a personal/home networking, storage and app server with features allowing users to access their files and apps remotely using android and ios clients. The current server client architecture works good but has room for improvements. The implementation of HTTP/2 protocol instead of the currently used SPDY/3.1 and HTTP/1.1 protocols would result in reduced latency and faster content downloading on modern clients. Also the addition of caching mechanism for the proxy server will reduce the data passing through the proxy server to a great extent. The main focus in this proposal is on improving the backend architecture and adding new features on the top like secondary user login, friending etc. and also addition of an app for the hda called Amahi Sync rewritten in golang. Other things include minor features, API addition and resolving bugs.

Amahi-Anywhere file server is complete and working as of now, but there can be certain improvements that can be done to so as to improve both, the code base as well as user experience. This proposal focuses on the implementation of those improvements and optimizations. Improvements in logging system will help the developers to get a better knowledge of the events happening in the system. The addition of a good caching mechanism will ultimately lead to a reduction of latency by a huge factor and thus will greatly enhance user experience.

This project also focuses on the implementation of some features which in turn will make the management of the Amahi app easier with the help of special dashboards where users can easily monitor the system and take action accordingly.

In this project, my work will mainly focus on to develop new features for Amahi 12. Amahi is one of the best open-source media server software available right now and is well known for its easy to use interface and functionalities. The "Platform" is the core software of Amahi and it is in development for the last 7 years. Amahi 11 is the latest version of Amahi and it is officially released last year in 2018 and provides support for fedora 27. Amahi 12 is currently in the development phase and will be released soon with support to fedora 30.

Main Objectives:-

Improve Platform and implement new features for Amahi 12.

Fix existing plugins and provide them support for the latest version of Amahi.

Update Dockerfile and create new docker image supporting latest Amahi.

Completely implement backend and plugin of friending feature. This will help Amahi users to share files and Shares with other Amahi users with permissions control.

Implement let's encrypt feature for Amahi to generate certificates for establishing secure connections with yourhda.com subdomains.

Improve the app installation process using docker. Dockerize existing applications and add support for more applications. Improve plugins and overall performance of the platform.

The android version of Amahi works well. For Summer of Code’ 17, I will mainly be focusing on adding the following functionalities to the app:

Updating Designs & provide backwards compatibility.

Adding Chromecast Support.

Developing a new module for Android TV.

Adding support for secondary user.

Adding upload functionality (Manual as well as Auto Upload).

An Auto Back up setup which directly backs up your phone data to your HDA.

Improving the caching mechanism for the Thumbnail Previews.

The main goal of my project is to implement more advanced features and bring more functionality to the android app. It includes adding features like File upload and delete; auto image upload whenever a new photo is captured using any camera app; chromecast support for casting audio, video and photos; new native android video player; status bar and lockscreen notifications for controlling audio playback; swipe gestures in video player for controlling brightness, volume and video position.

This project aims at providing network-wide Ad-blocking in Amahi HDA and to develop a centralized SSL Certificate Management Interface for Amahi.
Network-wide Ad-blocking feature would prevent a client from being served with any advertisements whether browser-based or in-app. This would also eradicate the need for installing any ad-blockers on every device separately within a HDA local network.
The centralized SSL Certificate Management Interface would enable Amahi to provide SSL certificates to the subdomains, Amahi provides to each HDA user in form of Amahi Dynamic DNS after installation. This would enable the HDA to serve the content intended securely. This subdomain is used by the Amahi user for connecting to their HDA remotely, using remote desktop applications or even hosting a website.

In this project, my work will mainly focus on working as a full stack developer for Amahi. I will implement new API endpoints which can be consumed by the Amahi mobile applications. I will convert complete front-end to responsive design using bootstrap-4. There is also a need for proper documentation of Amahi backend APIs. Good documentation will serve as single point reference for all present developers and future contributors, which thus helps in expanding the Amahi community. Also, I will develop new plugins for Amahi 11 as per requirements.

This project can be mainly divided into 3 parts:-

Part 1: Making front-end responsive using Bootstrap-4 and Upgrading Rails app to version 5.2

Part 2: Developing new API endpoints and enhancing Amahi apps system.

Part 3: Developing new plugins for Amahi and providing support to existing plugins.

The Aim of the project is to add more functionality to the Android app.

Following features can be implemented in the app:

Sharing of folders

Secondary user login

Support for remembering user preferences like audio position, video position, sorting option, etc.

Support for displaying recent files

Theme and Material Design implementation

Adding automated UI testing protocol

Implementing ExoPlayer for playing music

And many more small features.

This proposal aims at implementing new features in the Amahi iOS project. Ease of use and efficient architecture is kept in mind while implementing every feature. The features that I'll be working on include :

Upload/Delete Feature.

Continuous Music play.

Metadata Display.

Thumbnails.

Secondary User Login.

Chromecast Integration.

I would like to contribute to the mobile department of Amahi by adding new features to their iOS application and improving the user experience. I have many ideas to make the app look even better and to make it more user friendly.

I would add a walkthrough screen to the app where the user can learn more about Amahi's services and also other features such as upload and delete functionalities. I would make it possible for the user to share files easily too via third party apps such as emal, iMessage or Facebook.

I also believe that Chromecast support would be greatly appreciated by many users as well as improved searching and filtering features would be very useful too. I would love to work on these new features to provide an even better user experience to Amahi's users.

I propose to implement Home Assistant and many of its apps and features in Amahi App store and try to integrate well with Amahi. So, users can control their home assistant while being powered by Amahi platform. This will be better than HomeAssistant in Raspberry Pi. Pi is a low powered device. Compared to that, amahi works on a full-fledged PC. So, it will give more power to users to control their devices. I will also implement amahi 12 in Fedora 30 using anaconda addon, which is in PYTHON.

If time left then I propose to improve the installation experience of Amahi by completely removing the method of INSTALL CODE and setting up basic Amahi HDA without an API key. This will remove the hassle of registration before using Amahi.

Since, I have worked with Amahi before, especially with installing and setting up Amahi division. I have deep knowledge of how Amahi gets set up. I have done extensive app testing in my previous GSoC so, I have some knowledge of Amahi Apps.

The OpenELIS organization currently relies on JSP (Jakarta Server Pages) for most of its pages but is gradually transitioning to a modern JavaScript-based framework, React.js. Many pages still use Java-based controllers and endpoints to dynamically update and display data on the front end. As part of this project, I will rewrite all Test Management Pages and their components in React UI, integrating them with REST API endpoints to fetch and render data. Additionally, I will migrate all Test Management Configurations, Management, and other operational pages to React.
OpenELIS Organisation is currently using JSP (Jakarta Server Pages) in overall pages it is slowly moving towards the newer javascript-based framework called React Js. Currently, a (n)number of pages use Java-based controllers and endpoints that dynamically change page data in the front end to show the results, outputs, and desired data. For this project idea, I will rewrite all the Admin Pages in the React UI, connecting the Rest API Endpoint with the rendering data to the front end. Also rewriting all the Admin Configurations, Management, and Other operational pages to React.

Scope

Project scope is to develop a React.js library of pedigree components that will meet the GA4GH standards. Library will be build of accessible components. On top of that, library will include a environment to run components and speed up the development process.

Features

Due to need of building tools from those components, library will provide an API to make it easier for developers to modify state of components from code level. Components are still accessible from library without any abstract layers or boilerplates so developers have freedom of choice, how to build their app.

MusicBrainz is aiming for a user experience overhaul. To keep design and development in sync, by thousands of contributors over the years, we need a design system in place. The goal of this project is to build this design system which will include, apart from assets and MusicBrainz design principles, reusable independent UI components written in React.js. Further, I will use React Storybook to build a component library which will allow users to browse through components, visualise different states of each component, and interactively develop and test components.

“Htsget retrieval API spec” [1] is a specification by the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) for genomics bulk data transfers. This is a Streaming API that allows users to query remote services for regions of interest of genomic data, instead of having to download gigabytes of data and filter afterwards. The results are retrieved in formats that can be consumed by widely used bioinformatics tools. The specification currently supports BAM and CRAM formats.
Variant Call Format (VCF) is the standard for describing genomic variation in bioinformatics. The goal of the project is to extend the specification to support the VCF format and provide an implementation.
